I have owned my Kobo ebook reader for about a month now. I never thought I would say this (see previous post on ebook readers) but I believe there are some advantages to electronic books over paper books. I said some.
I can carry more than one volume at a time and with my “more than one book on the go” reading style this is handy. An ebook bookmarks easily; I never lose my place. The ereader is always the same size, fitting easily into my briefcase or pack. I can get thousands of free ebooks online and preview books that I may or may not be interested in buying. If I’m going camping I can bring all my books, including my Bible, with me. What about battery charging, you ask? I have a lightweight portable solar charger that will do the job.
I still read paper books and a paper Bible but I will continue to use my ereader on the train, when travelling and at my local Starbucks. For the price of a couple of hardcover books you really can’t go wrong.
What are the chances that we will suffer an Electromagnetic Pulse attack on our infrastructure here in North America. The answer, from a biblical standpoint is slim to none. The reason I say this is because the Bible clearly describes events that will be seen worldwide during the tribulation. The two witnesses in the streets of Jerusalem will be broadcast via TV, internet, Twitter, Youtube et al… How is the antichrist going to control the world’s population, particularly their buying and selling without the internet? Oh don’t get me wrong, I believe things are going to get ugly even before the tribulation but an EMP attack does not seem a likely source of trouble. I still remember Col. Bo Gritz telling Dr. Stan (wwwradioliberty.com) back in Dec. 1999 that, “well Dr. Stan I believe Y2K will be the precursor to bring about the chaos that will usher in the antichrist and satan’s New World Order.” Let’s get realistic and accept what the Bible says concerning future events…
If a generation is 70 years, and the generation that sees Israel come back to the Land “shall not pass away” until the Lord returns, then 2011 could be the year. I said could; the fact is the rapture could happen today, next year or in 20 years.
1948 plus 70 years is 2018. Subtract 7 years for the Tribulation and you get 2011. I’m not much into this kind of math because there are so many variables. A “generation” does not always equal 70 years. The Jewish calendar is different from the one we use.
I’m also reminded of a book that came out in the 1987. The title was: 88 Reasons Why the Lord Will Return in 1988. Ooops!
Are you ready for the rapture…whenever it happens?
